You are warmly invited to Demos' launch of a collection of essays on the global financial crisis, After the Apocalypse. While it's far from clear that the apocalypse is actually over, the report asks what we do when the dust begins to settle.

We asked a range of international economics, regulators and commentators what can be done to avoid future financial crises of the kind we are seeing today. Contributors include:

  • Prof Willem Buiter - Professor of European Political Economy, London School of Economics
  • Vince Cable MP - Financial Spokesman for the Liberal Democrats
  • Prof Richard Dale - Professor Emeritus, Southampton University
  • Prof Lord John Eatwell - President, Queens' College Cambridge
  • Clive Cowdery - Chair, Resolution Foundation
  • Prof David Held - London School of Economics
  • Prof Peter Hahn - Cass Business School
  • Phillip Hammond MP - Shadow Chief Secretary to the Treasury
  • Will Hutton - Executive Vice-Chairman of The Work Foundation, columnist for Observer & Guardian
  • David Kern - Economic Adviser to the British Chamber of Commerce, formerly Chief Economist, Natwest
  • Prof Colin Mayer - Peter Moores Dean, Said Business School, University of Oxford
  • Prof William Perraudin - Director, Risk Management Laboratory, Imperial College Business School
  • Gillian Tett - Capital Markets Editor, The Financial Times
  • Philip Whyte - Senior Research Fellow, Centre for European Reform
  • Paul Wallace - UK Economics Editor, The Economist
  • David Miles - Managing Director and Chief UK Economist at Morgan Stanley

The report will be launched at 6pm, Wednesday 5 November at Demos, 136 Tooley St, SE1 2TU. The event will consist of a panel discussion of the report's main findings, chaired by Phil Collins, as well as a public Q&A. Vince Cable MP, Peter Hahn (Cass Business School), and Paul Wallace (the Economist) will be among the respondents. A drinks reception will follow the discussion.

We very much hope that you can join us for what promises to be an exceptionally interesting debate. Please RSVP using the link in the window above. If you have any questions about the report and event, get in touch at events@demos.co.uk or by calling 020 7367 4200.
